Fred and crew already tore one up completely and turned it into a long wheelbase 2 door

On a short enough timeline...

it really is, but its hardly a JL anymore from the chassis down.

That’s embarrassing. Embarrassing for FCA that it takes the aftermarket to build versions of the Wrangler that people have been demanding for years (decades?).

I’ve thought for a while that Jeep should offer an option to buy a bare body and frame with the option of getting it with an engine. I was accidentally in Moab last year during Eastern Jeep Safari and the number of JK’s with V8s and Dana 60s is downright crazy. Many of them started as Rubicons!

It must be so nice to be a wrangler repair shop since you must have an abundance of “used” brand new parts to choose from on the cheap.

Agreed. At least Fred usually uses his jeeps and requires most of the mods applied. I honestly don’t know for sure what the axles are under the JL but I think I saw that they were a variation of 44's that they were calling a “dana 45". With all that said, no factory axle is going to support 42's for anything other than show.
Secondly, it has the proportions of the LJ (TJU), where it looks great with large tires and the top on, but the looks falters quickly with the top off. I shall now call this jeep the LLJ (Larger Long Jeep)

I love the idea of that, but in reality those extra doors are pretty useful. Especially since they didn’t make the front doors longer

This is a really good idea. I think this is how a lot of cool old cars could be brought back. Like the FD RX-7, or AE86 even old school muscle cars that have sky rocketed in price. Just sell the shell as a “kit car” and offer different interior, suspension, and powertrain options. Several OEM companies sell their engines by them selves why not do the same with Chassis.

I think people would love another LJ, but its aint happening with a 2 door 4 door and soon to be truck in the family. The Jeep axles are indeed either D30's or a Jeep specific D44. a D44 sounds like a tough axle, but they really aren’t. semi-float, pressed tube, and gear and pinions that aren’t THAT big (my Land cruiser front axle stock is beefier than the rear axle on a rubicon). Fred did a good walkthrough with dynatrac about their axles and answers the question we all ask - why not just put on stronger axles from the start.

I swear they are only buying VINs half the time.

FCA has to deal with things like CAFE, safety standards, and reliability. The aftermarket does not. It’s not embarrassing that people actually
want
their vehicles, you don’t see people doing this stuff to a CX-5.

Well, dropping a supercharged 707hp V8 into everything doesn’t seem to be a problem. But you’re right. Still, a Wrangler pick up is long overdue as long as gas is cheap.
